    A Video about Gratefulness

    Thursday, March 20, 2008, 10:56 PM [General]

I found this video to be absolutely amazing! It's truly eye-opening. The person narrating is a Benedictine Monk named Brother David Steindl-Rast. He really lives each day for God by choosing a theme each day (for example, water) and then whenever he encounters that theme, he stops to live in the moment and give thanks for it. If we all lived like this, how much better would our lives be? And, in turn, how much better would the lives of those around us be?

DivaVillage Vistor Question - Natassia Malthe's Gown

Cheryl from Atlanta emailed us to ask:

"I am trying to find out what designer made the red dress [Natassia Malthe] wore to Elton John's AIDS foundation party."

In case you were wondering the same, here is our response:

"Natassia Malthe was wearing a red bondage knit tiered gown designed by Zac Posen at the Elton John Academy Awards viewing party.

Thanks for your question, we hope we answered it!"

    Throw an Oscar Party!

    Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 06:10 PM [General]

    Throw an Oscar Party!

It’s that time again; the most anticipated awards show is almost here. Airing Sunday February 24th at 8pm ET and 5pm PT on ABC, the Oscars are sure to be a fun-filled event! We’re looking forward to, of course, the red carpet fashions and seeing who takes home their own little golden man.

What can make this night even better? Watching it with your girlfriends! Why not take full advantage of this Hollywood event and throw your own Oscar Party? Here are some tips for throwing an Academy Awards party sure to go down in the books as one of the best:

Tips for the Perfect Oscar Party:

    1. Create your own Oscar-themed invitations to send to friends thanks to MSN and Windows Live Events. Windows Live Events is a free service from Microsoft that people can use to send virtual invitations to events and share photos and stories after the party is over. Through a partnership with MSN , Windows Live events now offers new Academy Award® themed invitations, the essential online invitation for Academy Awards® parties, with direct links to MSN ’s in-depth Academy Awards® coverage.

    2. Get your guests invested in the show by creating a winners pool! Print out Oscar ballots ahead of time so your friends can choose their picks before the awards are given out – then give the person who got the most right a prize at the end of the night!

    3. Encourage your guests to dress in designer duds to get them in the spirit – but suggest affordable options. Designers like Erin Fetherston (who has dressed celebs like Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, and Kirsten Dunst) has her own affordable line at Target, and Vera Wang (who designed wedding dresses for the likes of Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Garner) currently sells at Kohls. Have your girlfriends walk your own red carpet, take pictures, and then have them all vote for the most fashionable winner!

    4. Let your guests eat & drink like the stars with fancy appetizers from celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay or Wolfgang Puck. Try these recipes:

    * Lobster Cocktail

    * Finnish Potatoes with Oestra Caviar

    5. Serve drinks that offer a nod to your favorite nominees:

    • La Vie En Rosé wine
    • There Will Be Bloody Mary’s
    • Juno-tinis: non-alcoholic punch for the pregnant or under-age girlfriends

Get all the info you’ll need before the awards air at the Windows Live Academy Awards Guide and have a blast watching the show with the ladies you love most!

    My Favorite Things!

    Friday, February 15, 2008, 02:26 PM [General]

Every once in a while I come across some things that I just have to tell you about! So here are my latest favorite things:

    Little Voice by Sara Bareilles

I love this new album by Sara Bareilles. Sara quickly rose to stardom and the top of the Billboard charts with her hit single "Love Song." She's been compared to Norah Jones (another of my favorite artists), even though she has no formal training in either voice or piano. Her soothing tone and heartfelt lyrics make this album a definite must-have!

    Remington Electric Shaver

This razor from Remington is perfect for quick touch-ups. Every girl hates trying to shave in the winter when her legs are covered in goosebumps (at least I know I do)! That's why I prefer to shave after I get out and dry off with this remington razor. It's a pretty close shave for an electric razor, and when you follow it up with lotion, your legs end up silky smooth!

    Audrey: Her Real Story

What girl doesn't love Audrey Hepburn? Reading this biography by Alexander Walker gave me insight to her life and the making of each of her movies. I now appreciate them on a whole new level, and I fell in love with Audrey even more after reading her story.

    Tend Skin

Because I have sensitive skin, shaving and waxing take their toll on me and I usually end up with painful ingrown hairs.  But Tend Skin has been a lifesaver in that department. Applying a little of this liquid after shaving or waxing makes the world of difference and has saved me!

There you have it! These are my favorite things at the moment... try them out and let me know what you think!

    Superbowl Wrap-up!

    Monday, February 4, 2008, 12:09 PM [General]

Like millions of other Americans yesterday, I was stuck in front of the television watching the Superbowl for most of the day. Was I there to watch the game? Not necessarily... everyone knows that the Superbowl has so much more to offer than just a football game! There's the pregame performances, the halftime show, the commercials, and, of course, a ton of junk food! I spent about 5 hours straight eating chips, salsa, brownies, hot wings, and some carrot sticks thrown in for good measure. Anyone else?

    The Best of Superbowl Sunday

I thought I would share some of my favorite moments of the day with you all, starting with Paula Abdul's comeback performance before the game. Did anyone else even know she was planning a comeback? She apparently has a new single, which she unfortunately lip-synched...but it was full of Randy Jackson on guitar and Paula Abdul with slightly early 90's dance moves. Despite that, I give her props for moving like that and shaking it after a decade of not performing - and I love that she started and ended with some old Paula Abdul favorites! Take a look:

    Superbowl Commercials

How much do I love Will Ferrell? He's always hilarious, and this commercial followed suit:

Justin Timberlake.... ahhhh, what can I say? I wish I was one of the women in this commercial!

Oh yeah, and supposedly there was a football game on. The Giants (with quarterback Eli Manning) won the game - which was a big upset since it ruined the Patriots perfect record (poor Tom Brady) for the season. But it's always nice to see the underdog pull through. See, I watched the game!
